Freedom

Updated: Aug 7, 2020

There is freedom to be you in all that you do when you do the things that make yourself you!

Oftentimes, we are busy addressing life’s many have to’s. “I have to go to work, I have to take the kids to school, I have to make dinner, I have to keep up this pace,” etc. The truth is, there are plenty of “have to's” in life. They linger in our thoughts and remain at the forefront of our brains until we dutifully check them off of our list. Yes, there can be a great deal of satisfaction in checking tasks off of the chore chart, but somewhere in the hustle of it all, we may find ourselves getting lost. Lost in the sense of responsibility, lost in the mundane repetition, or lost in our ability to recall exactly who we are.

What makes you, you? Do you ask yourself? What makes you tick? What makes your heart race at the idea of being able to do it? What speaks to you? Are you listening? Are you pursuing your dreams or setting goals to be achieved? Are you discovering what it is that brings you great happiness?

I love to write. I love to dance. I love to spend time with my friends. I love to sing at the top-of-my-lungs! I love to spend Sundays with my mother and listen to the stories of her life. I love to walk with my fur-child, Lita Lee. I love to gift my daughter a sweater that I have worn only a few times because she just said she liked it. I love the expression on her face when she is the recipient of my small gesture. I love to love. I love to be loved. This, I believe, makes me who I am. It is at the core of who I am. My desire to demonstrate affection for others makes me the most joyful.

Each day, I make little promises to myself. I promise to live. I promise to discover what it is that makes me, me and I promise to enjoy the freedom of it all.

On this day, I hope you will take the opportunity to discover what makes you, you. Make a promise to yourself to live. Finally, please make a promise to enjoy the freedom of it all.
